Raymond McLEAN Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Jan. 9 to Jan. 11, 2011.

McLEAN, Raymond A.September 29, 1923 - December 18, 2010Ray was born on September 29, 1923 in East Selkirk, Manitoba to Murdoch MacLean of South Bragar, Scotland and Eva Cameron Nelson of East Selkirk, Manitoba. He married Doreen Caine on May 9, 1946 and they spent their lives together until her death in Palm Desert, California, on November 18, 2009, a marriage of 63 years. They had four sons, Alexander (Sandy) who died in 1954 at age 5, Roderick (married to Beverley), Daniel (married to Catherine), and Joseph - all residing in Vancouver, B.C. Ray is survived by eight grandchildren and their families. Ray's life embodied an old-world work ethic. His success in life and in business can be directly attributed to his hard work. He was a disciplined father, a fun-loving grandfather, a doting great-grandfather, a brother, an uncle, a consummate businessman, a humble mentor, a loyal friend --- and the undisputed patriarch of the McLean Family. In his final years, Ray was able to dedicate more time to family and friends and we are all grateful for the time that he was able to spend with us. He will be sorely missed and his departure will leave a huge void in many friends' and families' lives. Consistent with his unassuming manner, Ray did not want either a funeral or a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a donation in Ray's name, please do so by donating to his favourite charity, the Salvation Army. Ray's remains will be interred with his loving wife at a private family ceremony in a family plot in Edmonton, Alberta. He will remain forever in our hearts. Godspeed

To the McLean Family....I had the pleasure of visiting Ray only a year ago as he was keen to support young, emerging venture companies in the Province of BC. His presence was large, wit / mind lucid and sharp, and a kind, gentle soul.
Rest well Ray...you helped many find their way...

I just found out that Ray had passed away. He was a great man, an amazingly successful entrepreneur and one of the most down to earth businessmen I have had the pleasure to meet. I count myself fortunate to have made his acquaintence.

It was both challenging and interesting dealing with Ray. I was always amazed in his abilities to remember details and to see the bigger picture. A great Entrepreneur!
