Mark was my partner years ago at Connell Lightbody, and he and I shared many conversations about our growing families then and the everyday struggles of law practice and wanting to spend time with his family, in whom he took great pride. I remember well his enjoyment of the Churchill Society and his dedication to his clients and their struggles. I was in Ottawa when Mark passed, and learned of it only today in looking through The Saint. I am very sorry to hear he has left us way too soon. Love you and your family, Mark. Kerry-Lynne D. As I prepare to attend the celebration of Mark's life later today, I am again struck with both the profound sense of sadness at his passing, and the profound joy that I felt in knowing him for so many years. He was one of the first friends I made coming to Vancouver more than 30 years ago, and our city is a poorer place for his loss.

Mark was a truly delightfull person who epitiomized the saying " a scholar and a gentleman"...They just don't make them like that any more. Such a loss. My heartfelt condolences to his family, his brother, my good friend Michael, and his mother and father, and his two wondefull sons. Penny Noble, Vancouver

I sat on the West Vancouver Field Sport Forum Working Group (and its predecessor working group) with Mark for close to 5 years. He made a tremendous contribution. I will miss his thoughtful and measured response to each issue. His gentle humour was a delight, that infused the working group atmosphere with wit, fun and perspective. His commitment to sport in our community was unwavering. He was an irreplaceable volunteer, who was always positive, constructive, fair and available despite a very busy schedule. He will be sorely missed by the sporting community in West Vancouver.

I had the great pleasure of having dinner with Mark on May 27th shortly before his death. It was a wonderful Vancouver evening and we sat outside and enjoyed a great meal and some rather nice wine until the staff essentially suggested that we leave. Mark spoke lovingly, enthusiastically and at some length about his sons and the great times they had together and all in all seemed to be in excellent health and spirits. We agreed it would be his turn to host the next time I visited from Calgary.
I was shocked to hear of this death -- all of his friends and particularly his sons are so much poorer for having lost him.

On behalf of the Churchill Society of British Columbia, I send condolences on the death of Mark Steven. Mark was the president of our Society in 1988. He is fondly remembered.
The Churchill Society is thriving with membership of 120 families and holds six events per year. Randolph Churchill, the great grandson of the great man, addressed our Society at the Annual Banquet in May, 2012. The website of the Society is www.winstonchurchillbc.org.
So Mark can be proud of his legacy in the Churchill Society of British Columbia.
Sincerely,
Christopher Hebb

I am saddened to learn of Mark's passing. In all the years that I have known him, Mark was always the gentleman in the true sense of the word, he was witty, professional and caring.
