Paul Enock Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Mar. 1, 2013.
Paul Alan Enock, 78, passed away at home in Langley on February 24th, 2013. Born in Australia, he emigrated to Norway to follow his dream of high-level athletic competition. He represented Canada as a competitive cyclist and speed skater. In 1962, Paul broke the world record for 3000m and forever changed fashion in speed skating from wool to the more aerodynamic nylon. He competed for Canada at the 1968 Winter Olympics held in Grenoble, France. Following retirement from active competition, Paul coached the Canadian National Speed Skating Team into the late 1970s.

Paul had decades of progressive heart deterioration and in the past year, was repeatedly hospitalized for congestive heart failure. However, as Paul wished, he died at home. For Paul, after his years of devoted Christian faith, he was well-prepared to move on. Without the unselfish love and physical support of his beloved Sandra Wheeler, the last many months would have been unmanageable. Sandra will always remain a part of our family.

Paul was predeceased by his parents, William and Ethel, his brother, Christopher, as well as two wives, Eva in 1962 and Jean in 2007. He is survived by a brother David (Barbara) in Australia; two adult children, Erik (Vivi-Ann) of Oslo, Norway and Larissa (Scott Jones) of Langley. He leaves two grandchildren, Amanda and William.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at 11:30am at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church located at 20097-72nd Avenue in Langley. Following the service, mourners are welcome to join us at Paul's home. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Dad's name to the charity of your choice.
