A legend from Saticoy, known by his friends and family as the oldest teenager next to Dick Clark,it is with heartfelt regret to announce the passing of Larry G. Cobos, 75, a retired cement mason of Ventura County.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Rose (Lu Lu) of 42 years; 5 children, Gayla, Larry Jr. (wife, Alicia), Danny, Corey (wife, Lisa) and Brian; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Renee Donato, Augustine Jr. Cobos, Eddie Cobos, Tina Peterson; Goddaughter, Theresa Robledo, and numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins.
He is preceded in death by his father, Augustine P. Cobos, mother, Mary G. Cobos and brothers, George and Ralph Cobos.
Larry was a member of the Plasterers & Cement Masons - Local 741 for over 30 years. As a journeyman, he helped many obtain a position in the trade. He enjoyed golf and was a member of the Mexican American Golf Association (MAGA). In his younger days he was a fast pitch softball pitcher and played with both Saticoy and the Ojai Merchant's leagues. Larry was an avid collector of old cars and frequented car-shows with his sons. He enjoyed the Rincon, Pismo Beach, Lake Tahoe, and Rosarito.
Larry was known for helping others, having a good time and ensuring everybody else was having a good time too. He left a lasting impression and made new friends where ever he traveled. He loved Mariachis and sang with them frequently. He loved his wife, children, family and friends and spoke of them often. Although he will be missed dearly, we all know he's now dancing and singing with Jose Alfredo Jimenez and driving his '63 red corvette and his '56 Ford pick up.
A mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Friday, February 27, 2015 at 10 AM; Reception to follow at the Ventura Moose Lodge. In place of flowers, please make a contribution to your favorite charity.
