Bernice O. Akers passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Shoreline Care Center in Oxnard. She was 90 years of age.
Bernice was born April 27, 1920 in Dallas County, Arkansas and enjoyed her lifelong career as a homemaker. She and her husband Doc came to California from Arkansas in 1938 and they settled in Santa Paula. In 1958 they moved to Oxnard, which they permanently called home.
She was the loving mother of Patrick (Leola), Mike (Glenda) and Dan Akers (the late Sharon). She is also survived by her brother Paul Calaway (Frances) of Michigan; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Bernice was predeceased by her husband, Grover (Doc) Akers.
A graveside service of remembrance will be held at 11am on Tuesday, December 7 at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Conejo Mountain Funeral Home, Crematory & Memorial Park, 2052 Howard Rd., Camarillo, CA 93012, (805) 482-1959. Grandma Bernice was the sweetest and most heart warming person. She loved to have a good time, was so generous. As you all know she was a wonderful woman. May all the happy memories surround you and keep you at this time and always as they do us! Love, Adele and Andy
