Margery Nunn Obituary

Mickey Nunn passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010.

Mickey was born in Alva, Okla., in 1923 where she lived through her graduation from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Following graduation, Mickey worked in Oakridge, Tenn., until she enlisted in the Navy in 1945. She served as a meteorologist in the Navy for five years. She met her husband, Fred Nunn, Jr., in the Navy and they were married in 1950. They traveled extensively with Fred's Navy career during the early years of their marriage and lived in a variety of locations including the Philippines, Japan, Alaska and California.

In 1960 they moved to Camarillo with their oldest son, John. In 1964 they built their home in the new Rancho Lomita development of Camarillo where they raised their family, which grew to include three additional children, Bob, Bill and Ann. She lived in the family home until January of 2010. Mickey had a variety of careers during her life including working as an administrative assistant, meteorologist, and elementary school teacher.

However, the role that Mickey valued the most was that of wife and mother. Mickey lived a full life dedicated to her family. She served on PTA, Band Boosters and Athletic Boosters boards. She was involved in her church community including the Boy Scouts of America and the American Association of University Women (AAUW).

She was a charter member of the Mt. Cross Lutheran Church where she attended throughout her life. She was known for her sharp intellect, wit and courage. She loved animals, enjoyed traveling, reading and watching sports- especially the UCLA Bruins. Most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mickey touched many lives and was loved by those who knew her. She will be deeply missed.

Mickey is survived by her son, John of Phoenix, Ariz.; her son, Bob, and daughter-in-law, Renee of Newbury Park; her son, Bill of Camarillo; her daughter, Ann Flavin, and son-in-law, James of Conneautville, Pa.; and her seven grandchildren: Megan, Caitlin and her husband Peter, Alexander, Daniel, Nicholas and Samuel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the "Rio Mesa High School/Mickey Nunn Trust," a fund established by her late husband in her honor that provides scholarships to dedicated band members. Contributions can be sent to: Bob Nunn at 420 Whitegate Rd., Newbury Park, CA 91320.

I know Mrs. Nunn not just because she was the mother of an old friend of mine, but she was also a substitute teacher. My thoughts are with the family.

When I met Margery the first time she made me feel like family - so warm and kind! I know where Bill and Bob's kindness comes from. Your mother was so proud of all of her children and grand-children. Each of you carries her spirit of helping human kind - keep the spirit alive!

May happy memories flood your mind and heart when the sad moments come.

God Bless,
Ann Sobel

I did not know Mickey, but it would appear that she had a very exciting and full life. The Nunn's should be proud of their mother and I know she would be proud of her family...Gary Adcock
