John Ward Obituary

John, known to family and friends as J.P., was born Aug. 19, 1922 to Irene Hoy Ward and John P. Ward, Sr. in Swenson, Texas. J.P. attended elementary and high school in Swenson and then went on to attend Abilene Christian College in 1940 and 1941. He joined the Church of Christ at Abilene, Texas in March of 1941 and the Navy in August of 1942, serving until December of 1945.

J.P. married Pansy Jo Jasper in Aspermont, Texas, Dec. 30, 1951. Shortly after their marriage they settled in Camarillo where they have resided until the present time. A daughter, Mary Irene Ward, was born on Dec. 23, 1952; she was John's pride and joy. A granddaughter, Lynda Burns, was born Nov. 15, 1974 and he loved spending time and playing games with her. J.P. worked for the Government in Civil Service for 31 years as an electrical planner and estimator before retiring in January of 1981. He enjoyed his retirement playing golf, planting tomatoes, and family reunions.

Preceding J.P. in death was his sister, Johnnie Petty, and brothers, James Ward, Preston Ward, and Clifton Ward.

J.P. is survived by his wife, Pansy; daughter, Mary Hundley; granddaughter, Lynda and her husband David; sisters, Nell Greene and Priss Springer; brothers, Bob, Dud, and Lon Ward.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m on Friday, Oct. 29 at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, Camarillo, with Chaplain Bob Hunter officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society in J.P.'s name. Arrangements were made with the assistance of Griffin Family Funeral Chapels, Camarillo; 482-1166.
