1930 - 2010
Joseph Daniel Laufersweiler passed away on Oct. 11, 2010 from cancer. Joe was born in 1930 in Columbus, Ohio.
He is a graduate of the St. Charles Preparatory School after which he started his studies at Notre Dame (B.S. biology) and completed his studies after serving a tour in the US Air Force at the Ohio State University (M.S. and PhD botany). He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judith Laufersweiler; his children, Mark Laufersweiler (wife Barbara) of Oklahoma, and Juliana Secrist (husband James) of Ohio; and his grandchildren, Joseph D. and John V. Laufersweiler and Hannah A. Secrist.
He retired as Professor Emeritus of Biology from the University of Dayton in 1994 and moved to California in 1997. A daily swimmer, he and his wife enjoyed their retirement to the fullest. He was a proud docent serving the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library for the last eight years. Not given to fanfare, he was loved by his family and greatly admired by his colleagues and friends.

Professor Laufersweiler was our Faculty Advisor during the summer of 1971. My thoughts always return to him as a great mentor to our little Research Group sponsored by the National Science Foundation. Results were presented in December of 1971. Always in our prayers.

Joe and I were in kindergarden 75 years ago. I have lived away from Columbus for many years but I still remember him fondly. May his soul rest in peace
