Angelica "Angie" Cardona, beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, passed away peacefully after her courageous four year battle against breast cancer on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010. At the moment of her passing, Angie was surrounded by loved ones. As she took her final breath, both her children were at her side, each one holding her hand.
Angie was born on Oct. 6, 1949, to parents Maximino and Felipa Cardona in Camacho, Zacatecas, Mexico. Her family moved to the United States in 1962, as her father was part of the Bracero Program. After living in various parts of California, including El Centro where she attended Central Union High School, they made their way to Oxnard in 1971, where she has been a resident for 39 years. It was in Oxnard where she discovered a passion for Baile Folklrico, which she proudly performed throughout Ventura County.
Angie was a beautiful, yet shy, hard-working, compassionate and generous woman. A single mother of two, she always worked two jobs to ensure her children and family were always provided for. She recently worked at HAAS Automation in Oxnard, where she was a mechanical assembler for the past12 years. She really took pride in her work and was often recognized for it. Angie also worked as an in-home assistant where she cared for the elderly.
She enjoyed trips to Disneyland with her children and grandchildren and trips to New York City. She was a huge fan of Elvis Presley, was a collector of Elvis memorabilia, and visited Graceland. She also enjoyed sharing moments of laughter with her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Gardening, shopping, cooking (especially her delicious Menudo), and knitting with her mother, were also her favorite pastimes.
Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her children, daughter-in-law, grandsons, and pets, Elvis and Lita, as they were her pride and joy. Her family and friends will never forget her beautiful smile, warmth, generosity, strength, courage, determination, kindness, and overall love for life. She inspired us all to never give up during difficult times, for God will always lead the way.
Angie was preceded in death by her father, Maximino Gallegos Cardona.
She is survived by her daughter, Angelica "Chiquita" Moreno, 32; son, Feliciano "Chano" Moreno, 31; daughter-in-law, Madai Moreno, 32; grandsons, Feliciano "Chanito" Moreno IV, 5; Davin Alexander Moreno, 2; mother, Felipa Jaramillo Cardona, 90; siblings, Bertha Gonzalez; Jaime Cardona; Irma Long; Joe Cardona; Rudy Cardona; Elizabeth Salcido; Max Cardona; and her nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned on her birthday, Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. at the Garcia Mortuary Chapel, 629 South "A" Street in Oxnard. There will be no graveside services.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the family-owned and operated Garcia Mortuary, 629 South "A" St., Oxnard. For further information please call 486-9148.
