The angels came and whisked Dorothy away on Oct. 9, 2010, at the age of 86 years old.
She was lifelong resident of Oxnard, born July 31, 1924. She was married to the love of her life, Joseph L. Pina, who preceded her in death. She worked for 10 years at Coastal Valley Canning Co. Nana loved to fish and bargain shop. She looked forward to her trips to Mazatlan, Chumash and Laughlin. She also loved barbecues and parties. She was proud of her specialties of pineapple upside-down cakes, papas con wienies and pineapple short ribs. She also enjoyed hearing the Mariachi play every now and then. She was known to ask them to play Volver, Volver, which was her's and our Daddys favorite song.
We will miss you Nana. "Que la ...." as she would say.
Dorothy and Joe were married in 1941 and shared 67 years of marriage. She is survived by two daughters, Angie Pina Varela of Oxnard and Maxine Pina Perket of 29 Palms; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; and her sister, Virginia Parong of Oxnard.
A Celebration of life Memorial Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25, at the Garcia Mortuary Chapel in Oxnard. Interment will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery where she will be joined with her husband. We had many wonderful memories growing up with Dorothy and, Joe , my Mother Fina and Dad Bruce. They seemed inseparable. It was every Holiday at the beach and every Saturday and Sunday fishing . Scolding from both Dorothy and Mom and helping cook food as if we were home.
Dad, died and the friendship with Mom and her new husband Red continued as it did with my dad. Dorothy, will be missed dearly and remain in my heart and memories forever.
God Bless both Angie and Maxine

Dorothy had many many fine qualities. She was kind, generous, thoughtful and loving but she was also outspoken. I liked this quality because many times she made me laugh. Also, Angie her daughter like her mother, brings joy to many of us. A great Oxnard family.

How lucky to have had her as my aunt - funny, irreverent, and guaranteed to make you feel better about just about anything. What I loved about her the most was that she didn't put on "airs" - what you saw is what you got. Wow - lucky indeed!
