Ronald Murphy Obituary

Ronald Lee Murphy, age 65, of Oxnard, California entered into external rest on Sunday, October 10, 2010. He was a loving father, son, brother and friend.

Ronald was born in Kentucky on February 23, 1945 to the late John Murphy and Dorothy Brown. He and his family moved to Providence, R.I where he attended Hope High School. After High School he joined the Air force. While in the Air force he was also an accomplished middle weight boxing champ. There were many articles written about his style, strength and technique. He was approached about going professional but decided not to pursue the opportunity. After the Air force he returned to Providence and was employed as an Air Traffic Controller at T.F Green Airport. He moved to Oxnard in 1980 and had recently retired from working as an Inspector for Safety & Occupational Health at the Oxnard Naval Base at the time of his death.

Ronald was a very intelligent man with a keen interest in aerospace technology and a lifelong love of music and dancing. He had a very outgoing personality, great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He also had a big heart, loved his family, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his children; Monica Murphy Johnson of Houston, Texas, Ronette Clarke Williams of Douglasville, Ga., Elegethia Williams Burrell of Providence, R.I. and Brandon Murphy of Oxnard, California. He also leaves four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Garcia Mortuary 629 South "A" Street in Oxnard, on Saturday, October 23, 2010. There will be a viewing from 11am-12pm followed directly by a Home Going Celebration Service. Graveside services will conclude on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 12:30p.m. at Bakersfield National Cemetery 30338 East Bear Mountain Blvd in Arvin, California. I will miss Ron greatly. Not a day went by at work when he would make me laugh with some words of wit from some past experience. His focus in his last years was his young son who would make him light up and be infectious to all around him. He always talked about all his kids in the fondest of tones.
