Suzan Kettles Obituary

Suzan E. Kettles passed away on Nov. 11, 2010 at Hospice of the Golden Isle after an eight month battle with cancer.

She was born on April 15, 1946 in Compton, Calif., to the late John and Suzan Peters. She graduated from Santa Clara High school in 1964 and then attended San Jose State. She was a Ventura County resident for 61 years.

She held a career as a Comptroller in the Civil Service and retired in 1996 in Port Hueneme. She then relocated to Brunswick, Ga., in 2007 and worked part time in the garden department of the local Home Depot.

Suzan was an avid gardener and book reader but mostly enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, Moriya. She will be greatly missed by family, close friends and many lives she has touched throughout the years.

In quoting Susan "I want you all to have a big party not some stuffy service when I pass."

Survivors include a daughter, Nicole Kettles, and granddaughter, Moriya Kettles of Brunswick, Ga.; a son, John Andrew Kettles of Oxnard; brother, John E. Peters, and sister-in-law, Marlow Peters of Dresden, Tenn., and extended family.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, at the James A. Reardon-Payton Mortuary, 401 West Channel Islands Blvd., Oxnard. After the service a reception will be held and location given after the service.

Nichole, John and Moriya: I met Suzan when our parents purchased homes in the same neighborhood in Oxnard. We grew up together and were inseparable for many years. Suzan was the little sister I never had and she and I shared many good times at the Roller Gardens.
In later years, our paths crossed again at CBC, Port Hueneme, and we reignited our friendship. Suzan’s quick wit, and good nature will be missed.
My condolences to the family.

I bowled with Suzan for 2 years on base. She was a joy to call friend. May she rest in the arms of our Savior. Peggy Duske, Oxnard

Suzan was a patient and kind trainer of new employees in the payroll dept at CBC in the early 80's. She always took problems in stride. I am sure her family will miss her dearly. Lois Beardsley (Colorado Springs, CO)

I met suzan a fews years ago while she was visiting her best friend susan here in California. From the day I met her, I considered her a friend and what a joy she was to talk to every time she came out to california. I always got a smile on my face when I knew she was coming out to visit. She was a wonderful lady! I was very fortunate to know her. To the family, God has called upon your mom to be your angel now. May the memories you have hold close to your heart. And your mom will be looking down at her beautiful children with her beautiful home both of which she is so very proud of. You all made your mom so proud. May God Bless You all.
