Loved by family and friends, Doris Ann Hus passed away at home on Friday, Oct. 22, 2010 after a brave fight with cancer. She had just celebrated her milestone 80th birthday with family at a party in her honor on September 27.
Doris was born in 1930 in Chicago, Ill., and grew up in the Midwest. After high school, Doris attended Indiana University and then began working for the telephone company. In 1952, Doris met Dick Hus while working at Cities Service Gas Co. in Oklahoma City. Doris and Dick were married on July 16, 1953 and enjoyed 57 years together. After a year and a half in Huntsville, Ala., Dick completed his tour of duty in the army. He and Doris moved with their five-month-old daughter to Canoga Park, Calif. By 1962, when the family moved to Thousand Oaks, Doris and Dick had five children. Doris kept busy raising the kids and being involved in school and church activities.
In 1972 Doris went back to work and held several positions with local companies over the years, including editorial page editor at the News Chronicle, administrative assistant at Amgen, and proof reader at Sage Publications. Anyone who knows Doris knows she had a love of language and words. Jeopardy was her favorite TV program and she watched it religiously.
Always an active person, Doris loved to dance and was a very involved member of the Conejo Valley Cloggers for many years. She also enjoyed bowling, walking, and volunteering. Doris volunteered as an usher at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza and served as a member of the Volunteers in Policing program. Her volunteer work at the Los Robles Regional Medical Center gift shop on Friday afternoons was one of her favorite activities.
Dick and Doris loved to travel and enjoyed many trips around the United States and to several foreign countries over the years. Spain and New Zealand were two of their favorite destinations. Family was always Doris' heart and soul. She spent many hours visiting and vacationing with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Dick Hus; five children, Linda Johnson of Moorpark; Peggy Acosta and her husband Frank of Thousand Oaks; Karen Lindner and her husband Larry of San Diego; Gary Hus and his wife Debbie of San Diego; Pat Hus of Chandler, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren, Trevor and Tyler Johnson, Christopher and Jennifer Acosta, Scott and Keith Lindner, Alex and Eric Hus, Jessica, Matthew, and Nicholas Hus; one great-grandchild, Carter Acosta; and one sister, Nancy Red of Houston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris' honor may be made to The American Cancer Society or Buena Vista Hospice Care, Inc., 143 Triunfo Canyon Road, #103, Westlake Village, CA 91361, 777-1133.

Linda and family - I read in the paper about your mom. I have fond memories of her back from elementary school. I have also run into her in more recent years when she was doing her thing at the Civic Arts Plaza.
Love to you,
