We only met Pete (POP's) a few times but he and Shirley were warm and welcoming immediately treating us like family. He loved his family very much and they love him back. He was there when Tyler, my son in-law was growing up and was a big part of Tyler's life. Tyler's patience, calmness and love of family came out of the love he was given. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Pete left an indelible impression upon me in an age in which a man of good character is rare to find. A small but significant part of his legacy is the hope that character produces.

My brother-in-law for 51 years. He loved his work, loved to teach, loved to share his knowledge, loved his family. His memory will be held in a special place in his family's heart forever. If there's a school in heaven, it has a new teacher.

You can judge a man by the legacy he leaves. I see his legacy everyday in my son-in-law Ryan. Thanks Pops for the fine young man you raised. Go in peace!

Thank you for sharing Pete's photos - he had a very active, fulfilling, meaningful life with many loving people around him – to include us at VPI. He was a hero and example to follow for many (I’m in that crowd too..), so even though his body finished the service, his spirit is nowhere near being ready to quit or leave us. It has been a great privilege and blessing for me to know and work with Pete for nearly a decade!

Pete will be so missed by so many. He embodied all that we wished to be, caring, giving, patience, but strong. Pete was always there with an ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on. Pete has toughed my heart and will always have a part of it.

Pete's 'voice of reason', his kindness, his way of making me realize my intelligence is valid, the way he listens - really listens - more than he talks, his support as one of the best bosses I have ever had, his way of teaching - these are all qualities/gifts that he shared and I for one will be paying these same gifts forward in his honor. Pete has been an inspiration to me professionally and personally. I am truly missing him and very thankful to have shared his time with him.
