Lifelong (Dec. 13, 1931) Santa Paula resident Howard Hobson passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 16, 2010.
Graduating in 1950 from Santa Paula Union High School where he was the senior class president, Howard attended Ventura College before serving in the Air Force for four years. His early love of flying was evidenced when he would sometimes skip school from Isbell to go flying at the Santa Paula airport. Upon returning home from military duty, Howard graduated from Los Angeles State College and began his career in law enforcement as a policeman with the Santa Paula Police Department. He stayed in law enforcement with his transfer to the State of California as a parole agent serving the communities of Bakersfield, San Fernando, Santa Barbara and Oxnard.
Upon his retirement from the State, Howard began his final career, and the one he truly loved, as a cattle and citrus rancher.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Eddie Hobson, and his sister, Thelma Bohl.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann, and daughter, Deann of Santa Paula; daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Luther Gregory and grandchildren Andrew, Katelyn, Jessica and Abigale of Caldwell, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to your favorite charity.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22 at Santa Paula Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of Skillin Carroll Mortuary, 525-3391.
