Dora Shields, 81, passed away on Friday, Oct. 15, 2010 at home in Oxnard after a lengthy illness.
She was born on Nov. 30, 1928 in Brownwood, Texas, to Fred and Mary Cupp. She was a resident of Ventura County for 59 years. She was retired, having worked for 3M for 15 years in various capacities. She was a former member of the Ventura Bird Club and at one time was active in raising exotic birds.
Dora was preceded in death by her son, Frank Cleveland, and grandson, Christopher Cleveland.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard Shields; children, Nona Bell Rother and husband Larry of Crestview, Ore., Jim Watson and wife Judy of Bakersfield, and Terry Shields of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Charlie Calahan, Steven Hauzer, Allen Williams and wife Agata, Cindy Calahan, Kelly Watson and wife Cindy, Ricki Watson ad Daniel Cleveland; and 21 great-grandchildren. Dora was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She was a member of the Bethany Chapel where a Service of Remembrance will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23. The address is 1076 Stroube St., El Rio. Arrangements by Charles Carroll Funeral Home, Ventura. 642-8134.

Sweet memories of Dora. She loved her family, friends and pets without condition. One of the first families on Helsam Ave ...... we will sorely miss her. She is happy again in the company of Frank and Christopher. Prayers go out to Leonard and the whole family.

I had the honor of caring for Dora a few times. She was a beautiful lady with a big heart!! Even for the short time I knew her I could tell she had a heart of gold! I'm glad she has made it to where we all dream to be someday with our heavenly father...my prayers are with you Leonard and family!!

She was the neighborhood MOM!! She was my other mother and I will miss her. She was the sweetest person and would share everything she had with you, her Love, her time, whatever it was you needed. I miss her but she is in a much better place and she is waiting for me!!!
