(3/5/1923 - 12/23/2010) Maryetta F. Wesley, 87, of Ventura passed away peacefully on December 23, 2010 from complications of pneumonia.
Her devoted daughters were by her side. Maryetta was born and raised in the small town of Ferrell, New Jersey to Samuel and Pearl Frye. She was one of 10 children. After graduating from Glassboro High School, at age 18, she and a cousin made a courageous move and traveled west to California to start a new life. She acquired a job as a "Runner" (messenger) at the Long Beach Shipyards and that is where she met the love of her life, her husband and our father Harry Wesley.
They started their life together in Ventura County, both employed at the Port Hueneme Naval Base. Maryetta worked for several years in data processing before deciding to become our wonderful full time Mom and homemaker. She has remained a Ventura County resident for 67 years.
Besides being the greatest mother in the world, Maryetta loved gardening, sewing, interior decorating, listening to music, singing, laughing, traveling to visit friends, and just being around and enjoying her family. She had a tremendous love of life and a healthy stubbornness which enabled her to accept challenges and never give up.
She beat the odds and conquered cancer twice. She suffered with osteoporosis which left her with 2 shattered ankles after a bad home accident and the inability to walk without a walker and she rarely complained. With her continual positive attitude and will to carry on, she did just that. She was a survivor in her own right.
Maryetta was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 40 years, her father, her mother, sister Alma Stevenson and brothers Raymond and Howard. She is survived by her three daughters, Marcia Sween (John), Colleen Simmons (David), and Barbara Collinson (Tom); granddaughter, Staci Sween - Rubin (Michael), grandson Benjamin Collinson and great grandsons, Ethan and Chase Rubin; in New Jersey, her sisters, Betty Darrell (John), Bertha DeLeeuw, Ida Boeckle (Jim ), and Becky Metcalf; brothers Sam and Warren Frye (Rose ) and many more nieces, nephews and relatives.
Maryetta will be remembered for her calm and patient nature, kind words, her inherited Frye quick wit, her incessant smile, her great sense of style and, of course, the twinkle in her beautiful eyes. This wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Rest in peace sweet Maryetta. We love you.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 4th at Charles Carroll Funeral Home, 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura, 93003. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura. Please visit our website at www.charlescarrollfuneralhome.com to leave tributes.

I always enjoyed talking to Maryetta, as she was perpetually upbeat and positive. I can't recall a single complaint from her about anything, and each conversation ended with me feeling better than when it started. What a fortunate family, to have had such a delightful person to call Mother, Grandma, etc. for so many long and wonderful years. My condolences to all of you. She will be deeply missed.

Marcia, Colleen and Barbara,
I am so sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. I remember Aunt Mary with fond memories when she would make the trip back east to see her family. She had a great zest for life and a way of putting everyone at ease. Of all the moments you have shared with your Mother, the memories that you carry in your heart are the most precious. May your hearts soon remember those wonderful memories of joyful times together as we celebrate a life well lived. My love goes out to each of you and your families.

On reading the obituary of your Mother it is apparent she was a very special person who brought much joy to others. We were truly touched by what we read. The fact that we did not spend any time in her presence is obviously our loss. Daniel and myself send our sincere condolences. Her soul is now in safe keeping and you have a beautiful Guardian Angel.

I only remember meeting Aunt Mary and Uncle Harry once, at a family reunion in Ferrell at the social hall. She was a wonderful lady. So Sorry for your loss. She would send my Dad a lot of funny notes in her christmas cards every year.

A remarkable woman..when my Grandmother Alma died..i always thought of Aunt Mary as the next best thing..She was a comfort to me and helped me get through that tough time..God had made perfection when he made the both of them..and now they are both in heaven enjoying eachother's company again. I wish i could have gotten to see Aunt Mary more in these last years. I loved her tremendously..My heartfelt sympathy to her family and friends..with Love and adoration,

There aren't enough words to describe my dear Aunt Mary. She was kind, loving, understanding, and most of all giving of herself to others. Whenever you were with Aunt Mary you just felt "at home". She always made the time to care for my mother during her illness, sew dresses for my daughter, and visit with my family. I love her and will miss her, but we will be together again and we will sing with the angels.
Love,

Dear Maryetta,
You were the greatest mother-in-law a guy could ever have. I miss our weekly dinners together and the fun times we shared. Plus you laughed at my jokes. Rest in peace Mom.
