Audie Stachey, a longtime resident of Oxnard, peacefully went to be with our Lord on Saturday the 13th of November at Glenwood Care Center.
Audie was born on Sept. 30, 1926 in Fannie, Ark., to Jesse D. Johnston and Donna Johnston. She was raised in Story, Ark., along with four other siblings. Audie married Howard R. Stachey in 1950 and relocated to Oxnard in 1954.
During their union they were blessed with three children. She received her Associates of Science degree (RN) in 1985. She also received her Bachelor of Arts in professional studies with a concentration in psychology at St. Joseph's College on May 9, 1998. Audie worked as an RN at Hueneme Adventist Hospital, and also provided her services for private in-home health care. She was most fond of receiving her bachelor's degree, an accomplishment that took 11 years to achieve. She was set back four times due to three spinal operations and a stroke. She persevered and received her degree at age 72 where she was recognized for this accomplishment in her school's paper.
Audie was a devoted Christian and attended Nyeland Community Church (Grace Chapel). Audie had a passion for learning, reading, and fashion. She spent most of her evenings reading and studying her "daily devotions." She was a true southern bell. She enjoyed precious moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Audie is survived by her loving husband, Howard R. Stachey; daughter, Pamela Jeanette Hill (John Hill); and son, Howard R. Stachey, Jr.; grandchildren, Jesseca Calucag, Monica Hill, and Bridget Stachey; great-grandchildren, Jayshan Gaston, Eric Ferguson, Jr., Raymond and Rianna Banks; brothers, Wint and Bert Johnston; sister Joy Beam; and a host of family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her first child, Patricia Annette Calucag; and sister, Edith Garskey.
The family would like to thank the staff at Glenwood Care Center, Vitas Hospice and Dr. Adam Sherman for their wonderful care of Audie.
Services will be held at Nyeland Community Church (Grace Chapel) on the 20th of November at 2 p.m. (3326 Nyeland Ave., Oxnard, CA 93036).
