After moving to Chester, Calif., in 2006, Barbara spent her time sewing, quilting, maintaining extensive vegetable and flower gardens, singing in the local community chorus, and bird watching.

Barbara is survived by her husband, John; children, Catherine, Norman and John; daughter-in-law, Connie; grandsons, John and Nils; brother, Norman Anderson and family; nephew, Donald Anderson and family.

Dear John,

My deepest sympathies on the loss of your dear wife. I cherish the memories of our after school chats about your beloved family as you expertly took care of Hueneme Elementary School. You were hands down, the best custodian I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

May God grant you comfort in these memories, now and in the days ahead,

John, Cathy, Norman & John Jr,
My heart is aching for this family at this time. I am so sorry to hear about Barbara. She was always so good to me. Even as a teenager when I was the "not so good" babysitter and I so admired her sewing skills. Her beautiful smile and loving, sweet kindness will forever be remembered. I pray for your family.

I last heard from Barbara May 31st when she replied that my e-mail made her "chuckle". Well, Barbara often made me chuckle with her very wry humor . . . frequently enhanced with a mischievous smile. John, Catherine, Norman, and John Jr., we've known your wife and mother as a friend, parent,
teacher, and co-worker and will miss her greatly as well. RIP, Barbara.

I think that I can speak for members of the Geneva Choir and the Chancel Handbell Choir here at First Presbyterian Church in Vallejo when I say that Barbara will be sorely missed. When she was in town, she cheerfully pitched right in and was such an asset, being a quick study and right on key. I was looking forward to getting to know her better in the quilting arena--wonder what celestial quilts will look like?

Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family during this time....

On behalf of everyone in our congregation (First Presbyterian Church in Vallejo, CA), we extend our prayers to your family. Barbara sang in our choir and played bells many times over the past few years when she was visiting Norm. We always enjoyed seeing her and having her share her musical talents with us!

Oh how I'm going to miss Barbara and her smiling face. I was looking forward to having her at our Quincy Crazy Quilter's Retreat in October. She was such an inspiration to all of us quilters. I'll never forget her humor and giggles! She gave me a fun piece of cow fabric. It will find it's place in a quilt in her memory. God Bless you Barbara until we meet again. My love, Donna Meyers

John and Family,
I am so sad and miss Barbara so much. I know your loss is even more. She loved you all so much. She talked about you all a lot. I feel as if I know you. Barbara was a friend, a mentor and an inspiration to me. She encouraged and urged me to do things I wouldn't have done. We laughed together so much. She loved to learn. She read books about everything. She was the most organized person I have ever known. She will be missed by many in Chester.

To the Ortiz Family,
I was in Mrs. Ortiz's 1st grade class at Hollywood Beach school back in 85-86. She was one of the best teachers I had throughout my school years. I specifically remember her teaching me how to make an oragami bird...I thought she was amazing! May you take comfort in knowing how loved she truly was and how deeply she will be missed.
Sincerely,
Christina Benavides

To Ortiz Family
Barbara inspired all who met her with grace, kindness and love. A true artist in all creative arts: quilting, painting, weaving, paper folding, cooking, baking...just amazing. . How fortunate I am to have known her, taken her classes, and be under her tutieage in quilting. In knowing her, I became a better person and will miss her insights on life. For like quilting,,,, life takes doing. We had the best time at Quincy Quilt Show just a couple of weeks ago. I feel blessed to have spent the time in her company. She was a gracious, insightful, and happy person whose spirit will continue to be with us all. I miss her very much.
12 hugs to all the family.
