Paul & Kim Apodaca

We loved Aunt Bertha and we will miss her greatly. Paul will especially miss discussing the Lakers with her on the telephone and listening to her dislike of Lebron James. She had a striking resemblance to her sister, Genevieve (Known as Aunt Susie to everyone) and Mom to us. After Mom passed, it was always comforting to see Aunt Bertha, as she reminded us so much of her. Paul was fortunate to talk to Aunt Bertha recently and to see her a few days before she passed. She was a wonderful, caring person who was loved by all who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the family at this time.

Being that Aunt Bert and I shared the same name, I always felt we had a little something special between us. We would share our experiences with this "special" family name and the nicknames we preferred. :) The legacy of the name and of the Lucero sisters in general really hit me at her memorial Mass when cousin Pat was honoring her during the eulogy. I couldn't help but cry thinking of my mom, aunt Bert, and all my beautiful aunts. What can we say...there's just something about those Lucero girls! Please know that my prayers are with you all as you grieve her passing. I truly loved her and she will be deeply missed.
Love,
"Little Bert"(Aunt Doty and Uncle Sonny's daughter)

I have very fond memories of Aunt Bertha and Uncle Harold. I remember going to Alamogordo to visit them when I was a child. I remember them coming to visit grandma and how happy it made her to have her sister around. I most especially remember how encouraging they were about my education. They promised to come back to my graduation from college and did. Aunt Bertha always had her spirits high and always made us laugh. She truly was a gem and will be missed. I pray that her children, grandchildren, sisters, nieces and nephews and all family find peace and comfort during this sad time. Remember, she is dancing, with joy, in heaven with Uncle Harold and dear Nina.

Just like with Aunt Doty and Aunt Mary Lou, receiving Aunt Bertha's yearly Christmas card was a total joy, and most often marked the beginning of the Advent season. Aunt Bertha always included a note asking after each family member, along with her wish for a special Christmas. The cards will no longer arrive, but with each Season from now on will come the memory of this special aunt who truly loved unconditionally. May she rest in God's perpetual light. May her children, and their extended families know that eternal love never dies. Wishing you all peace in your hearts.

I have many fond memories of my Aunt Bertha and am grateful that I was able to spend a few days with her earlier this year in Ventura. May God give you peace in knowing that she is now surrounded by the loved ones that have gone before her. She will be deeply missed. Memories of her will remain in my heart forever.
