Charles Wheat Obituary

On November 19, 2010 the sky swept a light rain of joyful tears as God welcomed Charles Wheat of Oxnard to his side. Charles was a beloved husband, father, mentor and friend of the community. Known to most as simply Coach he stayed in the game until his health forced him off the field.

Charles is preceded in death by his mother Agnes Hazeldawn Wheat and his son Don Wheat. He is survived by Claudette Wheat his loving wife of 50 years, their sons Clifford Brown, Kevin Wheat, Kenneth Wheat, and Jon Wheat, his brother Edward Wheat and his family, his three grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

In 1967 Charles became active in Southern California track and field as a volunteer official. A role and passion he continued until his death. He coached youth football in the Oxnard Area for more than 40 years starting with the Hueneme Rhinos and continued to the present team of The North Oxnard Warriors. He was a constant presence and supporter of Oxnard High School football and served as an unofficial guard at every home game since 1978. Coach was loved by all who knew him. We will miss you, Coach.

To The Wheat Family, When I heard I could not believe it. He was a Wonderful Man and a great Mentor. I learned so much from him. I thank him for everything he did for me. When my Brother Ruben died he was there for support and anything he could have did, and when David died he was also there. I will miss my Old Boss, I know he went straight to Heaven with the gates wide open for him. I live in Texas now. But he will always be in my heart...Eva Garcia

Coach Wheat was a very pleasant and cheerful man. He had a very kind spirit and was always very kind to my children. He gave AJ rides to football practice the year that he coached him, which meant a lot to us. It was always a pleasure seeing him at football signups, at the games and working with him in the snack bar over the years. He will be greatly missed by my family. Our prayers go out to thr Wheat Family.
