Eva Adams Heacox passed away Aug. 24, 2010 in Ventura.
A loving wife and mother and a cheerful friend, she will be missed by all. Eva was born in Long Beach in 1928, the fourth of six children of Jess and Mildred Adams. After spending her early years in Bowie County, Texas, her family returned to California, but Eva was always proud of her Texas roots.
Eva studied secretarial skills and graduated from Excelsior High School in Artesia in 1946. She was proud to work for many employers, including North American Aviation and Bell Toptex. During her teenage years she worked to pay for dance lessons, and performed for troops with the Marion Rankin Dancers during WWII. She loved music, and continued to dance and sing throughout her life. She was proud of her "high kicks" even in her later years. Eva was very outgoing, and would strike up conversations with anyone, anywhere.
She loved get-togethers with family and friends, and was active with the Garden Grove Women's Tennis Club, various bridge clubs, and later with the Kern River Valley Historical Society. Eva's creativity was displayed by the beauty of her flower garden, her cheerful wit and original poetry. Eva is predeceased by her parents and her sister, Evelyn Goldfield.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Heacox; children, Matthew Dawson and Kathleen Newman; stepchildren, Nancy Coolbaugh, Teri Woods, and Mark Heacox; brothers, Bill, Ralph, John and Harold Adams; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Mary and all the staff at Treacy Villa for providing such a loving and home-like atmosphere for Eva in her last years. Eva will be remembered at a Celebration of Life on Saturday, Nov. 6 in Anaheim. For details please contact Kathleen Newman at [email protected] . The family requests no flowers, but if desired, donations can be made to the Ventura County Alzheimer's Association or the Kern River Valley Historical Society.
