On Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, Helen Schaaff went to be with the Lord.
She was born in Hartsville, S.C., on Dec. 12, 1924. In 1953 she met and married Donald Schaaff. The two of them met at the U.S. Geological Survey in Washington, D.C., where the both of them worked. They were married for 56 years.
The family moved to Simi Valley in 1962. Helen was active in local politics during the late 1960s and early 1970s. She served on the very first planning commission in Simi Valley after the city was incorporated. She later worked for Simi Valley Unified School District for about 10 years. Helen loved camping, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Later in life she took art lessons and became quite an artist.
Helen is survived by her husband, Don; her brother, Charles Tyner; her children, Warren, Bill, Mike and Tricia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 22 at Stone Bridge Community Church, 4832 Cochran St., Simi Valley.
