LaNelle Southerland Obituary

LaNelle " Linda" Southerland, 91, of Camarillo passed away quietly at home Friday, Oct. 15, 2010.

Born on Dec. 18, 1918 in Rustin, La., to Howard and Gertrude (Williamson) Colvin. She had been a Ventura County resident for the past 20 years, coming from San Marcos, Calif. Linda enjoyed gardening, oil painting, reading, and most of all her family. She was a student of Religious Science. Always a faithful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her favorite flowers were roses, which she often used as the subjects of her paintings. During her professional lifetime, she was a successful beautician, rancher, restaurateur, and residential care provider.

Linda was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Gail Southerland.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Newell of Camarillo; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Alice Southerland of Ventura; granddaughters, Sarica Cernohous of Peoria, Ariz., and Amy Mirate of Camarillo; and great-grandchildren, Grant, Laurel and Lucas.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura, CA 93003. Condolences may be left at tedmayrfuneralhome.com.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Linda's name to VITAS Hospice or your favorite charity.
