Mrs. Lena Brackett, age 90, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 10 at Astoria Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sylmar from natural causes. Prior to her two and half year stay at Astoria, Lena lived with her daughter, Dianna, and son-in-law, Terry Benson, in Santa Clarita since early 2003.
Lena was born July 16, 1920 in Arcadia, Duchesne, Utah to William Monroe Lloyd, Jr. and Jessie Myrtle Hall. She was the last living daughter of 13 children. She was born a twin; however her twin died at 11 months. She is survived by two brothers: Arnon (and Yvonne) Lloyd of Roosevelt, Utah and Loren (and Ruby) Lloyd of Salt Lake City, Utah, and a sister-in-law, Ella Lloyd of Howell, Utah. She grew up on a farm in Utah and moved to Los Angeles at about age 19.
Lena was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her Savior Jesus Christ and was dedicated to serving others throughout her life. Lena and her sweetheart Robert Orren Brackett were married on April 26, 1942. They met at a diner where she worked as a waitress. They were married for 57 years and lived in Tarzana until they moved to Oxnard in 1984. They enjoyed living near the beach, taking long walks and traveling together with their RV group.
Lena's immediate family includes son, Richard Brackett of San Jose; daughter, Dianna Benson (husband Terry) of Santa Clarita; 10 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Orren Brackett, and son, Robert Alan Brackett.
A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 27405 Bouquet Canyon Rd., Saugus. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park, 22600 Lassen St., Chatsworth.
