Norman L. Rowe, 76, of Oakhurst, Calif., passed away on June 2, 2011, after having a stroke.
Norm will be greatly missed by family and friends as he was the type of person who shared his knowledge and skills with others and was a true gentleman in all his endeavors. Norm enlisted in the Navy after high school where he worked on aircraft and gained skills for later use in restoration work. Norm was a private pilot and was also an Aviation Maintenance Professional (AMP).
Norm had a lifelong passion for restoring antique airplanes and cars. He invented a special latch for Model A Fords, he later sold the patent. One of Norm's great accomplishments was restoring a World War II era Stearman aircraft to mint condition, which is on display today in a museum in Texas. Norm and his family lived in Newbury Park for 30 years.
Norm campaigned with many local aircraft enthusiasts to help open the Camarillo airport to the public. During that time he worked as a Field Rep for GE Aircraft Engine Division. Norm and his wife Carole retired to "KarLes Acres" in Oakhurst 14 years ago. Norm was the founding president of the Mountain Road Rattlers antique car club. He was also active with the Marines' Toys for Tots campaign and a member of The ROMEO club.
Norm is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carole; children, Leslie and Karen; and grandchildren, Max, Russell, Nicole, Kevin and Russ. He was preceded in death by granddaughter, Mallory. Norm touched a lot of lives and we are grateful for the many kind remembrances of him shared by so many people.
Contributions can be made in Norm's name to Toys for Tots, 31174 Cutting Horse Lane, Coarsegold, CA 93614.

Rowe Family,
Deepest sympathies and condolences for your loss. Norm is planted firmly in my memory as one of the most genuine kind hearted people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I will always feel that I have a place in his heart and he in mine.
We first met when I worked at Channel Islands Aviation in the parts department and he tracked me down when I moved on to work at Harbor Freight Tools. He always had a kind word, a great smile, and an open invitation to visit anytime.
A most gracious man that I will never forget.
My best wishes for all of you, his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of sorrow.
