Born Dec. 4, 1930 in Phoenix, Ariz., Ray Herron, 79, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 11, 2010. We are deeply saddened for the loss of a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.
Ray recently lost the love of his life, Peggy, just six short weeks ago. They were married for over 55 years and loved being together. He was truly broken hearted but we find great comfort in knowing that he is at peace and is with her now.
Ray was a Korean War Vet and found pride in serving his country. They moved to Ventura in 1969 where he retired after 35 years of service as a civil engineer at the Pacific Missile Test Center in Pt. Mugu. Ray loved to play golf! He would play as often as he could with Peggy and many of his close friends. He and Peggy enjoyed traveling the world together, they also loved dancing together and could cut a mean rug on the dance floor.
He was proud of his family, they meant everything to him. He especially loved being with his grandkids; he was known as Papa and he found every opportunity he could to go visit them. Just a week ago he went to visit the newest member of his family, his fourth great-grandchild. He was a kind generous man and always made himself available whenever you needed him. He had a great laugh and an infectious smile. We are going to miss you Dad! This is a good-bye just for a moment because we know that we will be together again, alongside Mom and son Keith.
Ray is survived by his son, J. Scott Herron and his wife Julie of Rohnert Park, Calif.; granddaughter, Tiffani Wright of Mesa, Ariz., and her husband Spencer; great-grandkids, Seth, Tessa and Scotty Wright; grandson, Dustin Herron and his wife Brittney of Mesa, Ariz.; grandson, Mitchell Herron of West Jordan, Utah, and his wife Kristin; great-granddaughter, Kali Herron and a great-grandson, Marshall Raymond Herron due in July; his brother, Bill Herron and his wife Brenda of Show Low, Ariz.; and brother-in-law, Bruce Jackson of Northridge, Calif.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 19 at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura.

I was so sorry to hear about Ray. I knew him and Peggy when I worked at Point Mugu. In fact, I worked for him as a secretary for several years and always said he was my favorite boss.
My prayers and thoughts are with you.

My condolences to Ray's family during this very difficult time. Ray was a fine work associate at Pt Mugu and a personal friend too. Our loss is Heaven's gain.

My deepest sympathies Scott and Julie. I will always have fond memories of both your parents from our days growing up as next door neighbors. Your dad's smile and your mom's laugh were always infectious. Our prayers are with you and the family. Karen Farrow McHarg and family
