Shirley Louise Harwood died peacefully in her home on Nov. 5, 2010.
She was born on Jan. 22, 1922 in New York City, daughter of Floyd H. Viets and Susan A. (Thompson) Viets, and sister to Vaughn, Ivan and Marjorie. Her happy childhood was spent in New York, California and Arroya, Peru. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from Occidental College in 1943. Later, after additional studies, she established her own business in cytology. She was an excellent mother, gourmet cook, avid reader and world traveler.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husbands, Dale N. Dunlap, James R. Scales and her beloved C. Edwin Harwood.
She is survived by her daughters, Hazel, Laurie Dunning and husband Steve, and grandchildren, Ian and Megan.
A private celebration of her life is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura. Condolences may be left at www.tedmayrfuneralhome.com.
