Theodore Wichman Obituary

Theodore Charles Wichman was born Oct. 3, 1921 in Carlton, N.Y., and passed away peacefully on Nov. 6, 2010. He spent his childhood years in Newfane, N.Y. He enlisted in the Navy and served on the aircraft carrier USS John Hancock during World War II. He arrived in California in 1947 where he met Marjorie, his wife of 61 years. They were married in 1949 and moved to Ojai in 1950. Ted worked for Shell Oil Company in Ventura as a gas plant operator for 29 years, retiring in 1977. When asked if he attended college, Ted would answer, "Yes, for 3 days."

While college was not his calling, mechanics certainly was. He had a passion for repairing and tinkering with anything from toasters to airplanes.

Ted is survived by his wife, Marjorie; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Greg Stafford; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Michael Werner; four grandchildren and one great-grandson. He also leaves behind a sister, Julie Wichman Perdue.

A family memorial service was held on November 10 at the Ojai United Methodist Church.

I have known Ted i since I was a kid he lived on our street and he was always so nice and sweet. I will miss seeing him ride his scooter around. I am so sorry for your loss I imagine that he is up in heaven telling stories with my dad, My dad always enjoyed Teds company . Thinking of all of you at this time and hoping your pain will lessen in time. marsha (Books ) Vaughan
