Richard was born in Linden, New Jersey to Rudolph and Clara (Fischer) Ulrich.

He served in the US Army from 1942-1946, serving four European campaigns.

He graduated from Valparaiso University and earned his Master?s Degree from University of Oregon. He taught history and political science in the Ventura Unified School District and at Ventura College. Richard won a teaching exchange Fulbright Scholarship to Bicester, England and was a Rhodes Scholar attending University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

After retirement in 1983, he and Dorothy traveled the world, living in Wales for 2 years. The couple moved to McMinnville.

Richard is survived by daughters Shirley Newingham, Evelyn Stevens, Marianne Angel, and sons Tom and Bill, 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Interment was held at South Yamhill Cemetery in Yamhill, Oregon. Condolences can be left at www.macyandson.com.

I will always remember Mr. Ulrich as one the best teachers I ever had. He brought Modern European History and American History to life and made it meaningful. His classes were always in demand as he was a great communicator, educator and a truly wonderful human being! I will miss him!
