KENNETH REINTS Obituary

Kenneth Eugene Reints, 67, died May 30, 2011, at Sharon Health Care, Peoria, his home for the past several years. Ken was born Jan. 1, 1944, in Rochelle, youngest in a family of four children and first baby of the year at Rochelle Hospital.
He grew up on the family farm in the Creston/Esmond area, attending Creston Grade School. After the family moved to Sycamore, he graduated from Sycamore High School in 1962 and then attended the University of Illinois.
Ken was a handsome high achiever as a young man, a top student in school and received many recognition honors for his work in 4-H and FFA, with projects including crop and livestock production, showmanship, marketing, truck gardening and leadership skills. He received the 1962 DeKalb County Outstanding Agriculture 4-H Member award, State Farmer Degree at the Illinois FFA convention in Chicago and was a delegate for Illinois to the National 4-H Club Congress in 1962. Ken also ran for the track team at Sycamore High School.
After high school, he began studies at the University of Illinois with interest in veterinary medicine. While at the U of I, he was struck down in the prime of his youth by a debilitating disease. With help of family and medical experts, he struggled to defeat the disease, but eventually it took him out of the game for the remainder of his life and left him disabled and unable to pursue his goals.
He is survived by two brothers, Philip Leo (Darlene) of Pinedale, Wyo., and Robert Earl Jr. (Delores) of Dysart, Iowa; one sister, Ruth Helen (Larry) Mayo of Bellevue, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ethel (Finley) Reints; and a niece, Connie (Reints) Kahler.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, with the funeral service immediately after at 11 a.m. at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth St., Rochelle. Committal will be at Lindenwood Cemetery, followed by lunch and fellowship at Lindenwood Union Church.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always. Ken was a very good friend in high school. I have great memories of the things we did together. Gone but never forgotten.

I'd like to extend my sympathy to the Reints family. Ken was a very good friend throughout our high school years. He being a member of FFA and I was a member of the FHA. We did many social outings with these two groups. As a result a great friendship was formed, and we always had lots of fun.

I was so sorry to hear of his debilitating disease. I know that he is at peace now that he has been called home.

I hope you will find some comfort knowing that you are in the thoughts and prayers of one of his friends.

To Ken's family - I am sorry to read of Ken's passing. I remember him well from school days and was saddened when I'd learned of his illness. He was a very pleasant soul. Susan London Gardner
