JANICE HAYES Obituary

Janice Kay (Armes) Hayes, 73, of Malta, Ill., died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at home surrounded by her family and friends after a struggle with lung disease.
Born May 29, 1938, in southern Illinois, the daughter of Delmar and Vonda Lee (Flannigan) Armes, Janice graduated from DeKalb High School in 1956 and married her high school sweetheart, Marshall Hayes on Aug. 4, 1957. She raised five children while helping Marshall operate the Hayes Spotlight grocery stores in Malta and DeKalb.
She was an avid photographer, reader, and loved traveling with Marshall and special friends, Jim and Judie Cochrane. Her joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed her time spent in Florida, walking on the beach, lounging by the pool, eating out and shopping at the farmers market.
She is survived by her husband, Marshall; five children, Jeff (LaDonna) Hayes, Marshall (Jennifer) Hayes, Casey (Bonnie) Hayes, Shelley (Robert) Hueber and Amy (Rod) Engstrom; twelve grandchildren, Spencer and Berkley Hayes, Olivia and Isabella Hayes, Sam, Kelsey and Eli Hayes, Alexandra and Joel Hueber, and Nate, Noah and Gabrielle Engstrom; three siblings, Jean (Stanley) Hydrick, Jim (Dorothy) Armes and Brenda (Dwight) Bowman; three brothers-in-law, Ron (Carol) Hayes, Ken (Marcia) Hayes and David (Mary) Walker; and several nieces and nephews. She also is survived by a very special mother-in-law, Evelyn Walker.
She was preceded in death by two siblings, Robert Lynn and Angela Lamphere; her mother, father, stepfather and father-in-law.
A memorial service and celebration of life is scheduled with a welcome from 10:30-11 a.m. and a service from 11 a.m.-noon, followed by a luncheon on Saturday, Dec. 17, at First Baptist Church of DeKalb. Cremation will take place at Finch Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Lung Association.
Arrangements were entrusted to Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home, 310 Oak St., DeKalb, IL 60115. Visit www.RonanMooreFinch.com to send an online condolence; 815-758-3841.

December 17, 2011

Just heard on Friday night that Janice will be singing with the angels this Christmas. We have been so out of touch since September so it was a shock for us, but we rejoice that she knew our Lord intimately and is now without the frailties of her last years. The words of the song "I Can Only Imagine" come to my mind - Janice now knows in full of the glory of God while we still see only in part! We are thankful for her life and are praying for your family in your loss.

Marshall & family-
Janice was the best "secret sister" a person could ever have...I loved the little thoughtful gestures she would secretly drop of at my house throughout the year. She will be dearly missed by all!
