Frances Barker Obituary

Frances M. Barker joined her husband of 51 years, Carl, in heaven Sunday evening, Dec. 26, 2010, dying of natural causes at the age of 93. Born in Youngstown, Ohio on Jan. 18, 1917, she was preceded in death by husband Carl Barker, brother George Mateyko and sister Jean Kroynovich. She is survived by sisters Ann Bobola, 91, and Louise Pluma, 89, who both still reside in the Youngstown area along with numerous nieces and nephews across the United States.

Frances met Carl while the two worked in the aerospace industry in Long Beach, CA. The couple would marry and live in the Anaheim area until moving to Hesperia in 1971.

Frances remained a Hesperian for nearly 40 years, the final six following Carl's death, in the company and care of her nephew Edd Pluma and his wife Eileen. Edd and Eileen's children, Kelly Manning of Hesperia and Jason Pluma of Victorville, were blessed being "grandchildren" to the couple that had no children of their own, outside of Frances' beloved Chihuahuas. They felt blessed by the love they received from both, and by the lessons learned from stories shared by each and blessed to later in life share their own children's lives with Frances. Frances will be remembered by Tyler, Vision, Cayman, Hailee and Driven as a truly great "Great-grandmother."

We will miss you, yet we smile as we picture Carl and you together again now and forever.

Frances will be laid to rest next to her husband Carl on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at Desert View Memorial Park in Victorville. A viewing will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Desert View with funeral services to follow at 1:30 p.m.
