I recently found a picture of Sally Rogers in my photo album from high school and decided to look her up online, which is how I found her Obituary. She was my Latin teacher at Osbourn High School in Manassas, Virginia for 4 years, from 1988 to 1992. I was so grateful to have had a role model who was truly an individual at a school that didn't value originality. Her class was the one place in that school that I felt safe from being bullied for not being like everyone else. She often planned Saturnalias to allow us to dress in togas and perform Classic works. As a writer and an artist, I looked forward to her classes, regardless of the problems I faced as a teen. She was an awesome teacher and person and I'm forever thankful that she was in my life. My sincerest condolences go out to the Rogers family. I hope you can take comfort in knowing that Sally positively affected many lives with her humor, dance, individuality, and kindness. She was a truly artist and scholar.

I just read the announcement of Sally's passing in the Carolina Review. I actually just spoke of Sally last week. In my freshman year at UNC, I needed to change rooms in Spencer dormitory and I ended up in a triple with 2 junior transfers. Sally was our next door neighbor. I can still see her sitting on her bed, hair in rollers, surrounded by her beloved Grrek, Latin, and Classics. Since I was from Ohio, she constantly tried to imitate my accent which made us all laugh. She took me home for Thanksgiving that freshman year and I ate my first (and last) oyster...which is what we were discussing last week. I lost track of her when she left UNC which is sad, especially since my husband and I lived in Silver spring MD for 17 years. To the Rogers family, please know there are many of us who will remember Sally for a very long time.

I met Sally in my first year at Brenau Academy, she had a beautiful Soul and was very smart. After she graduated from Brenau Academy we lost touch, Sally was a very caring and sweet person. She was one of my big sisters in 1966-67 Year. Wish we could have met again while I was living in Boston in later years. To the Rogers family my deepest sympathy and you are in my Prayes.

Sorry to hear of Sally's passing - I have many funny memories of her in Smithfield, Washington DC and the Carolina coast as I have been friends with Jean since we were 15. What an accomplished scholar Sally was - a woman who knew her own mind. I had forgotten about her ballet, the picture is a nice reminder of her classical style. My heart goes out to her friends and family.
