ROBERT BLACKWELL Obituary


BLACKWELL ROBERT BLACKWELL Bob passed peacefully at his home in Springfield, VA on June 4, 2016 surrounded by family and caregivers. He was born on Aug 1, 1941 in Miami, FL, son of Francis P. Davis, Sr. and Edna Earle Blackwell (deceased); was adopted and raised by his maternal grandparents Lewis L. Blackwell and Mary I. McElveen (deceased). He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Douglas Davis and Michael Andrew Chandler and one sister Carol Lea Davis. He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, June Nickerson Blackwell; sons Robert L Jr (Deborah) of Goldvein, VA and David L of Springfield, VA; sisters Miriam Butler of Tavares, FL; and Kathy (Dale) Cammon of Mableton, GA; grandchildren Greg, Tim and Jessica, great-grandchildren Steven and Aralyn and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Robert (aka Bob, Bobby, B2,) served in the United States Army from 1959-1981 retiring as a Master Sergeant for INSCOM/ASA. Recipient of numerous awards and commendations, Bob was a quiet and humble person who was loved and respected by subordinates, peers, and superiors alike. As a civilian he also worked for the CIA, Intercon Network Systems, McDonnell Douglas, and L.P. Baier. He retired from civilian work in 1997 for health reasons. A service will be held at the Old Post Chapel Fort Meyer preceding interment with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. A notice will be posted when the date is known. A "Celebration of Life" will be held for family and friends, date to be determined. Bob's reaction to the 14th Street Bridge plane crash will go down in history as a beautiful example of a man's love of his family. He was a fun fellow and a great guy! My prayers and sympathy go out to June and their family.
