I knew Harry at the JCC and will miss him. We always talked baseball and he was always friendly and could bench press his own weight. An impressive feat no matter what your age.

Harry Pitt brought a strong dose of professionalism and steadiness to the MCPS. He was someone who kept the ship going, pointed straight, without drama. We need more people like Harry.

Jeff and Joel,
I'm so sorry to hear about your Fathers passing. When I used to work out at the JCC I would see him often and I remember him as being one of the nicest and genuine people I had ever met.

During the early 60's Harry Pitt was a wonderful Biology teacher and wrestling coach at W&L H.S. in Arlington, Va. He consistently adjusted my shirt collar as I entered class (as I always had it turned askew) and gave me a firm pat on the back. I was not up to the task of wrestling yet he encouraged me to keep trying and never made me feel inadequate. He is one reason I never quit as an adult and always checked my collar before I left the house, and I am saddened by this message of his passing. My sincere condolences to his friends and family.

I admired, respected and enjoyed Harry.
He was a sensitive human being who understood people and their feelings. He was the consummate professional in all of his responsibilites in the Montgomery schools. He was a wonderful guy. He shall be sorely missed. Our condolences to the family- may his memories fill your thoughts.

My sincerest condolences to all the family and to Harry's companion, Suzie Offit. When I was young in my career in MCPS, I served as Harry's Administrative Assistant. At that time, Harry was the Area IV Superintendent. He was a leader who demanded excellence and I learned so much from him. He supported his principals and Area IV staff; he always sought additional resources for us to better perform our jobs; and above all, he demonstrated a real sense of commitment to the MCPS students, parents, teachers and to the school system as a whole. Naturally, I was thrilled when he was selected MCPS Superintendent of Schools. I admired his work ethic and his dedication to the organization.

A great loss to those of us who worked with him and knew him as a friend and leader. I will miss the fullness of his personality and caring for the children we served.
