Shana was a great friend of mine in college at GW.. I had no idea this had happened and am so sad to hear of her passing. She will be missed.

You will always be "little Shana Greatman" to me, from all the way back when you lived across the street and I babysat you for a couple of weeks one summer when I was pregnant with my own first child. Through the years I wondered what had become of you, and cannot believe that your life was so short. Now I pray that you wait in peace right now and that your family finds comfort, love and joy in every memory of you. My heartfelt condolences.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you, Jeff and Isaac. Even in her death, Shana has become someone "everyone knows" and has touched the hearts of so many of us who did not know of her prior to the article. The world is a better place because someone as lovely as Shana was here, and because she left behind such a beautiful baby boy. I cannot begin to express how much my heart goes out to you, in having to go on without her. She lives on in your heart and Isaac will know her from the joyous and loving stories you will tell him about her.

When I read Shana's story I kept expecting her to get better at the last moment. I started crying when I read she died.
I wish her family and friends all the luck in the world. I hope her son grows to be as wonderful a person as she was.

I'm not sure if your family will read this but I am so sorry, I know that the pain you all have felt every day pales in comparison to the pain that I am feeling right now. But in this moment after reading the story that the Washington post put online I feel some how connected. I can't stop crying and I feel like someone very dear to me has been lost and I just have to her write someplace. Shana you are so beautiful and congratulations on your perfect baby boy, you would have been an amazing mother and he was so lucky to have you for that short time. I don't know what to say, I am usually not a super emotional person, but I can't stop crying for her. I feel like in that small glimps I got to see all the joys that she had. that she wanted to be a mother so badly and that was the last thing she got to be before she passed away... I am so sorry for your lose I hope that Issac grows up knowing just how much his mother loved him. The only thing I fear in death is leaving my baby behind.... I'm just so sorry you won't get to have baby kisses.... you are beautiful

How tragic and so very sad. My heart is full of ache and utter dismay.
Shana, you are a beautiful soul and for all those fortunate to have known you, you will hold a forever piece of each and everyone's heart. For those of us who never had the blessed opportunity to know you personally but know about you only now, through your facebook entries, you will live on in our memories as a hero. RIP Love.

I just read this story and I couldn't believe what I thought would be a story of the miracle of childbirth end in tragedy. My prayers and my compassion goes out to the Swers family and especially little Isaac, who will never know his mom but at least had the chance to bond with her. GOD bless you!

I have faced much adversity in my life including battling sepsis post partum& reading this reminded me of my blessings. Your death is not in vain as you have touched so many lives. & your son will undoubtedly know how much his mother loved him& the depth of her strength. May God surround this family with his loving arms& know my family's prayers go out to yours. May you be at peace.

I did not know you--but my family has grieved for you. I'm so sorry Jeff for your loss and also that Isaac lost his mommy--words cannot express. I almost lost my life to PPCM. I am just so sorry. There is a group of about 75 women who are fired up and working harder than ever to raise awareness of this condition. Our prayers and thoughts are with you--I wish I had more to say.
