AUSTIN B. GRAFF  July 23, 1930 - March 3, 2013  
Austin B. Graff, 82, died of a brain tumor at his home in Georgetown, Washington DC. Born in Harrisburg, PA to Elizabeth Brandt and Charles Graff, he graduated from Andover and Yale before serving with the US Army in Korea. In 1958 he received graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and the Wharton School of Business. His career was primarily in labor law, and, particularly late in his career, discrimination law. He was active in the Georgetown Citizens Association, concentrating on improving the liquor and late-night tavern situation there. He held officer positions at CAG for several years. He was Secretary of the Georgetown Waterfront Commission and an enthusiastic promoter of rowing for young people. He was an accomplished hardball squash player and competed in national tournaments for over 40 years. In 2004-2005 he was ranked third nationally in his age group.  He was an usher at Christ Church Georgetown and a member of the Metropolitan Club of Washington and the Yale Club of New York City. He leaves his wife of 30 years, Kathleen Anthony Horne Graff; two stepdaughters, Kate Lluberes of Burke VA, and Margaret Beers of West Hartford CT, a step-son, Anthony Evans of Clarendon Hills IL, and nine grandchildren; also two sisters, Sara Cooke of Flourtown PA and Mary Black of Burns TN, eight nieces and nephews, and 23 great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 9, at 11 am at Christ Church Georgetown, 31st and O Streets N.W. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Church Georgetown or the Earth Justice environmental fund, www.earthjustice.org. Arrangements by DeVol.
