Ellen Kohlberg Obituary


 
ELLEN E. KOHLBERG  
Ellen E. Kohlberg, age 78, an executive assistant at National Geographic Society, died February 14, 2013. She was a longtime resident of New Carrollton, Maryland. Married in October 1957 to Alfred Kohlberg, Jr., she was born Ellen Stern in Berlin, Germany to Alfred and Elfriede Stern. She moved to Maryland in 1965 where her husband began his employment at the Goddard Spaceflight Center. She was employed by Kelly Services in December 1965 and was assigned to the National Geographic Society who acquired her contract. She remained at the Society until her retirement in March 1994. An active member of her beloved community, New Carrollton, she involved herself in many activities of the city. She was an officer of the Civic Association; a founding member of the Youth Advisory Board; an arbitrator for the Housing Review Committee overseeing rentals, as well as treasurer of the Friends of the New Carrollton Library. She also served on the board of the Friends of the New Carrollton Police Department. Survivors include her husband, Alfred and her step-sister, Ellen Tillier. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A., 4739 Baltimore Ave., Hyattsville, MD.
