Cookie and I in New York

Cookie:"You so crazy," and then that wonderful chuckle of hers. "Do you want a piece of this pie?"
Me: No thanks."
Cookie : If you want some you betta get some now 'cause when I get into it , it's gonna be all gone. You sure you don't want some?"
Me: Yeah I'm sure.
Cookie: Okay It's gonna be all gone.

That's what I remember the last time I went to visit Cookie. Still trying to give me something that was good and sweet. I was crying and and crying when I had heard that she had passed. My fiance kept telling me to stop crying. I told him I just couldn't stop the tears. Then I started laughing. I told him It was a happy cry. 'Cause I sat there and began to think about how she was no longer in pain. She was in a place where there is no more tears. (Read Revelations Chapter 1) May Cecelia, Stephon and all Cookie's family and friends find peace and comfort in knowing that she is in peace, no pain, no tears. I can't control the tears because I'm still here on this planet called Earth, but where I'm going there won't be any more suffering or pain. I will get to see Cookie and all my family and friends who made it to that place called Heaven. Oh yeah! it rained on that day of her home going celebration. And i didn't get to make it there because of some health problems of my own, but I know I'll see you there Cookie!!! Just keep that beautiful smile on your face until i get there because I'm comin."

No matter how bad she may have felt you'd never know it because she had that infectious smile on her face and was just glad to be in your presence! I know you are amongst the Angels now and you are smiling down upon us all! Until we meet again RIP - missing and loving all the precious memories of you.

It is still with a heavy heart that I write this. Michelle was truly amazing through her long battle with her health. I admired her strong faith in God and how upbeat she was -- always saying "I'm fine" throughout her illness. I truly feel blessed have worked with her. The Funeral Service was a special time -- where I met for the first time the love of her life -- her son, Stephon. Michelle and I had many happy conversations about our special sons.

My condolences to the family. I pray that God soothes the pain in your hearts and minds over the loss of one so precious.

Know that her light will continue to shine in the absence of her flesh. The person we knew will forever live in our minds and we will smile with thoughts of her and her antics. I am most grateful to God for allowing us to meet and become friends....I Love You, Cook!

Cookie, I remember coming over your house with Sheretta, Kevin and Shemika...It's been a long time, that's why you have to cherish the ones you love, because you don't know when it will be the last time, tell the people in your family that you love them! I pray for the whole family during this time, I want to especially pray for Stephon, that has gotta be some SERIOUS SERIOUS Pain. I can't imaging losing my mother! Be strong man, you can make it! I hope god will continue to strengthen you all!

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

Dear Leach family,
She may be gone in body, but not in spirit. To all who had the distinct pleasure of knowing her, or merely crossing her path, Cookie’s warmth, whit, and smile will live on. We are all the better for her having graced us with her presence. Please take comfort in knowing she is most definitely in a better place.
In love and sympathy,

Dear, cookie

I would like to start off with telling you i love you very much and that you will be missed dearly! I will never forget about the day when i first met you, you had a very bright spirit. It has been about 11 years now but i will always cherish and remember all the great times you, stephon,my mother, the family, and i have had together. What i will miss the most about you cookie is that mother daughter bond we had, I will miss calling you almost everyday when i got out of school, i will miss all the adventures we all had, I will miss your goofiness and laughter, but most of all i will miss you always. Even though it is hard to cope with your passing, it makes me want to appreciate my own life even more but to always keep your spirit alive. I just wish i could of said see you later and to give you one more kiss and one more hug until i see you again. I will never forget you cookie and i hope you are proud of stephon and I.
Love your daughter you never had, Britt

The United Methodist Committee on Relief was blessed to have Michelle as a part of our staff years ago. More importantly, it has been a pleasure and honor to call Cookie a "friend'. Here smile and humor could instantly light the room. Though she has suffered this last while, her strong and beautiful spirit has remained. It is that Spirit of her joy in life that will sustain us all in the days ahead. May that part of Michelle that continues to live in each of us, be the source of hope and joy even in the midst of our grief. God bless and keep each of you in the family. --Tom Hazelwood Assistant General Secretary, U.S. Disaster Response UMCOR
