JAMES MURPHY Jr.

MURPHY JAMES DANIEL MURPHY, JR James Daniel (JD) Murphy, Jr., passed away peacefully in the early morning of April 8, 2018 in Boca Raton, Florida with his loving wife, Genevieve, and sisters around him. JD was born on February 28, 1949 in Boston, MA, the son of James and Rita Keenan Murphy. He attended Cathedral High School where he is a benefactor and served on the Board for many years. He graduated from University of Massachusetts Boston in 1970. After graduation he moved to Washington, DC. and in 1979 founded Computech, which he grew from a start-up to a mature international software company from which he retired as CEO in 2014. At Computech, he directed the company's profitable growth while developing and mentoring many of his staff who greatly admired his vision. JD was a consummate entrepreneur serving on several bank boards as well as successfully investing in many private companies. His greatest pleasures came from his many philanthropic endeavors. He was Chair of the Washington Hospital Center Foundation, Member of the board of Catholic Charities Foundation, Founding Member and Chairman of the Maryland Angel Council, Chairman of the Technology Council of Maryland, and many other outreach programs. He was also a member of the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick. JD was especially determined to live his life by sharing his time, talent and treasure with those less fortunate. He will be sadly missed by all who were fortunate enough to cross his path and enjoy his warm, funny and gracious personality. In particular, those members at Columbia Country Club and Burning Tree in Maryland and Royal Palm in Florida where he enjoyed golf with his friends who were amazed by his competitiveness - never one to give up a "hole". He will be especially missed by his family and his many friends in Washington, Boca Raton, France and beyond. His eleven nieces and nephews, as well as grandnieces and grandnephews, could always count on JD to be present at their milestone events; birthdays, graduations and weddings, all of which he was actively engaged as a special uncle. His three sisters, Rosemary Dominick, Cheryl Marocco, and Terri Dunphy will particulary miss their dearest brother and best friend, as will his mother-in-law, Colette Laffly, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Monique and John Marcus, Al Dominick and Paul Dunphy. Most of all he will be missed by his loving wife of 32 years, Genevieve (Laffly) Murphy with whom he traveled the world and shared unparalleled joy being together. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Gawler's Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington, DC. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 16 at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew's Cathedral at 1725 Rhode Island Ave. NW, Washington, DC.
