FREDERICK SMITH Obituary
FREDERICK E. SMITH, JR.
As known as a black punk rock musician by the name of "Freak". Departed this life on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. He is survived by his beloved mother, Deloris D. Smith and a host of other family members and friends. Services will be held on Tuesday, August 29, viewing, 10 a.m.; funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. at The Cedar Hill Cemetery Chapel, 4111 Pennsylvania Ave., Suitland, MD. Interment to follow. Arrangements provided by JOHN T. RHINES FUNERAL HOME.

Fred was amazing. I don't think I can remember a single time I would see him that he didn't give me a huge bear hug. People are often a mixed bag, but not Fred, he was all good.

Mrs Smith, I want you to know how sorry I am about Fred. We lost one of the kindest, sweetest guys I've ever known. You did a wonderful job raising him and you should be proud. You were the real deal my brutha. I'm so happy and honored I got to create music with you, share stages with you , share tour buses with you, share awesome party times with you , and break bread with you. RIP, Freak!! You're a rock god and a legend from coast-to-coast. The music world lost a true trailblazer and a one-of-a-kind, larger than life personality.
Your legacy as a world-class guitar player, songwriter and musician will live on for decades to come. However, your legacy as a genuine, sincere, and honest friend will remain eternal.

Dearest Kat, and to the rest of Fred's dear family and friends: I am so so sorry for your loss. I worked with Fred at the 'old' 9:30 Club on F Street, and I always thought of him as a 'protector,' when we were working together, as well as an amazing guitarist. I'm glad I got to see a lot of his life outside the 9:30 Club with his band performances, etc. The world has lost a great, vital person; I am really looking forward to celebrating his life on Tuesday x

Fred "Freak" was an incredibly open, warm, accepting man. When I was in college in Washington DC he became part of my circle and accepted me wholly and w/out judgement. His music touched me and his hugs were a nightly mitzvah. Alone NOT alone- well remembered my friend. XO

I remember when I first met you and you were going to be a priest; a year later you chose another career path and all I saw was hair, chains, and a guitar and you never looked back.
