Died on Sunday, August 24, 2003 at Oakwood Village in Madison, WI. She was born in Sheboygan on September 14, 1912, the daughter of Otto and Augusta (Podlich) Martens. Louise received her Bachelor of Science degree from the UW-Madison. She taught German and English at Mayville High School for four years before marrying William Kenneth Holl of Richland Center in 1938. After several years in Madison, the Holls moved to Arlington, Virginia. While there, Louise earned a Masters Degree in German and Linguistics at the American University. Louise taught German at Yorktown Sr. High School in Arlington and in the graduate program at the National Institute of Health. Louise was a member of the American Goethe Society and also the American Association of University Women in Arlington where she served as president. She was an active member of Luther Place Memorial Church in Washington, DC, having served on the council for three terms and as a Sunday school teacher for many years. The Holls returned to Madison in 1989 to be closer to family members. Louise is survived by her three children, Karen J. Euston of Berkeley, CA, Wendell J. Holl of Lodi, WI and Nancy R. (Thomas) Lightfield of Burlington; and four grandchildren, Kimberly Euston of Albuquerque, NM, and Karla, Stewart and John Lightfield of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; and two brothers, Raymond and Arthur. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2003 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5701 Raymond Road, Madison, WI, with Rev. Sheryl Erickson, officiating.
