Charles Markell Obituary



MARKELL CHARLES W. MARKELL (Age 62) Of Calabash, NC, formerly of Annandale, VA on Saturday June 27, 2009. Beloved husband of Sandra Markell, devoted father of Erica (Hagan) Colo; son of Dorothy Markell; brother of Edward T. Markell and Margaret Chipiwalt. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Claire Colo. Charles lived in the Northern Virginia area until his retirement when he moved to a Golf Community in Calabash, NC. He served in the US Army from 1966 to 1968. He retired from ManTech International in December of 2006 as VP for Business Development, Defense Systems Group. Charles was an avid golfer and fulfilled his lifelong dream of living on a golf course upon his move to Calabash. He was active in youth sports and dedicated many hours to volunteering at high school track meets in Northern Virginia. Friends may call at FAIRFAX MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 9902 Braddock Rd., Fairfax, VA on Monday July 6, 2009 from 7 to 9 p.m. and where services will be held on Tuesday July 7 at 11 a.m. Interment will be held on Thursday July 9, 2009 at Quantico National Cemetery at 11 a.m. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. www.fmfh.com

My wife and I would like to express of deepest of sympathy to Charlie's family. When we were matched as partners, I just loved playing golf with him. He was truly an extremely likable person who will be missed. God bless you through this trying time.

We've been missing Charlie since he retired from ManTech! Lots of great memories; between his great sense of humor & all the fun we had w/the football pools. My thoughts & prayers go out to his Wife & the entire Markell Family. May he rest in peace.
