NAOMI KAMINSKY Obituary

KAMINSKY NAOMI U. KAMINSKY On August 11, 2015, NAOMI U. KAMINSKY passed away peacefully at the conclusion of a brief illness. She was born on April 25, 1936, in Hibbing, Minnesota, and graduated from Oklahoma University as a Phi Beta Kappa. Naomi initially moved to the Washington, DC, area to work as a cryptographer for the NSA. She met Irving Kaminsky, and each was the love of the other's life. The two would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in September of this year. Irving and Naomi's lives were always intertwined, and they shared their love of travel, culture, good food and good friends. Together they raised two daughters, Shoshana Beth Kaminsky of Adelaide, South Australia, and Kate (Joseph) Kaminsky Murphy of Glenwood, Iowa. Both, together with their father, survive their mother. Naomi's grandchildren are Yonatan Yosef Nansel, Nadav Amiel Nansel, Simon Alex Murphy and Clara Remily Murphy. Naomi was proud of her work for the Interfaith Conference of Washington and the National Pharmaceutical Association. She volunteered as a medical insurance counselor, at the Library of Congress and as a tax preparer for the elderly. Naomi spent her final years working with others to establish Chevy Chase at Home, a non-profit organization that assists older adults who choose to remain in their own homes enjoying their independence. With hundreds of members and volunteers, Chevy Chase at Home has quickly become an essential part of the lives of many older adults. The organization is Naomi's gift to the community that was so important to her and a legacy that will continue for years to come. Naomi's funeral will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015, 11 a.m. at Temple Sinai, 3100 Military Road, NW, Washington, DC. Interment following at King David Memorial Garden, Falls Church, VA. Shiva will be announced. The family has asked that donations be made in her memory to Chevy Chase at Home. Arrangements entrusted to TORCHINSKY HEBREW FUNERAL HOME, 202-541-1001 (endorsed by The Rabbinical Council of Greater Washington).Alex Murphy and Clara Remily Murphy. Naomi, how stunned I was to hear of your passing. You were taken out way too soon, so quietly and quickly, without many of us having a chance to tell you how much we appreciated all you have done for so many.

I knew Naomi from Chevy Chase at Home in the early days. As a visionary, she, along with Joan Urban, propelled the organization and community surrounding it into existence. Even the last time I saw her, Naomi seemed so full of energy and optimism, with her lovely smile. With her upbeat nature, she seemed to enjoy so much the flowering of the brainchild she had helped create in Chevy Chase at Home, and was looking forward to future events.

She was also so thoughtful and caring, always sharing credit for what she did and encouraging others around her to continue progressing beyond her time leading CC@H. I will miss Naomi and am thankful for all she did for the community in Chevy Chase. I offer my deepest condolences to her family and friends.
