On Tuesday, February 6, 2018, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved husband of the late Mary L. Wessells; father of Pamela Wessells and John (Melissa) Wessells; grandfather of Kathryn Wessells; brother of John, George (Joe), and Tom Wessells, and the late Dorothy Tillberg, Marjorie Keranen, and William Wessells; son of the late John Stanchel Wessells and Verna Gray Wessells. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Friday, February 16, 2018 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment private. Everyone at the office of Patrick L. Bryant,D.D.S.,P.A. want to extend our heartfelt condolences. We are shocked at the passing of Mr. Gerry Wessells. He had been our dental patient for the past 12 years. An absolutely wonderful soul, we would have to schedule extra time for his appointment because we knew he had a story to tell:) He will be greatly missed. God Bless you Gerry...Rest In Eternal Peace.

I worked with Gerry and Tommy at the Park Police. As a young officer, I went Gerry for advice and guidance. He was a great role model, and will be missed. My condolences to his family.

Gerry was a mentor from the earliest part of my career as a civilian rookie, with no public safety communications, much less public safety experience, whatsoever. He provided wisdom and wonderful counsel to me throughout my career, about work, life, and history. He was a voracious reader and great conversationalist. As others have noted, he had a wonderful laugh, along with many wonderful stories borne of military and police experience, too.
He and Mary were the cutest couple I ever saw, and they had the extra close habit of finishing each other's sentences. Outside of my parents and in-laws, they were the most in synch pair I knew--and now they are truly together again.
Pamela and Jack, George and Tommy, your family and friends, my wife Susan and I want to express our sympathy for the loss of your father and brother, respectively.

There are few people I had the privilege of working with that left a positive impression on my career. Gerry was one of those people. He always had the time and wisdom to talk with me and in some cases calmed me down. I will remember him fondly and may he rest in peace.

Gerry was my next door neighbor, and my friend. He taught me so much in this last year and a half about life, lawn care, home repair over an endless cup of coffee. I will miss our coffee clatches. I always looked forward to his words of wisdom and his hearty laugh. He was very good at lending a hand when I needed it, advice when it was warranted and chasing errant squirrels out of my kitchen. I will miss him greatly!
