TERESA BERTHOLF Obituary

BERTHOLF TERESA De SALVIO BERTHOLF "Terry" Died peacefully at her home in Alexandria, Virginia on Monday, February 9, 2015 at the age of 89. Terry was born in New York on December 3, 1925, to Diego De Salvio and Emanuela Romeo. In the 1950's, she moved to Ankara, Turkey where she worked for Pan-American Airlines in their corporate offices. While living there, she met and married Charles Marriner Bertholf, a Captain with US Naval Intelligence. Shortly after marrying, they lived in Washington, D.C. and then moved with their family to London for three years. When Captain Bertholf retired, they settled in Alexandria, Virginia. Terry started her own business, Curran Designer Fabrics, in McLean, Virginia, where she brought fashion and style to so many for over forty years. The most important aspect of her life was her family. Those who were fortunate enough to be touched by her understand that it was her loved ones that gave her the most joy. She enjoyed a full, rich and wonderful life, between her travels, professional career, friends and family. She loved travelling the world and spent many summers in Ibiza, Spain. Her warmth and her wit will always remain in our hearts, as it seems that even at 89, she has left us too soon. Terry is survived by her three daughters, Brenda Bertholf Charmey, who resides in Paris, France; Melissa Bertholf Cafritz of Washington, DC; and Katherine Bertholf Nichols of Concord, MA. Her son, Charles Marriner Bertholf, Jr. is predeceased. She is also survived by her ten Grandchildren: Anne Marriner Bertholf, Carlson Detre Cafritz, Kendall Melissa Cafritz, Andrea Whittemore Hamor, Emily Teresa Cafritz, Margaux Marriner Charmey, Celine Eloise Charmey, Katherine Nichols Olney, Jennifer Nichols Reed and Samuel Quincy Nichols, Jr.; ten great-grandchildren include; Stella Marriner Hamor, Lucia Margaret Hamor, Charlotte Marriner Olney, Adair Delano Olney, Nina Taggart Olney, Sophia Katherine Reed, Lily Madeline Reed, Caroline Fogarty Nichols, Ethan Taggart Nichols and Margot Marriner Nichols; two sons-in-law, Carter Detre Cafritz of Washington, D.C., and Gilles Charmey, who lives in Paris; her daughter-in-law, Helen Bertholf of Bethesda, MD, widow of Charles Marriner Bertholf, Jr.; her niece, Wendall Harrington, her brother, Alphonse De Salvio and her sister, Mandy Conciatori, all from New York. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 19, 11 a.m. at Christ Church in Alexandria, Virginia. 118 North Washington Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bright Beginnings, 128 M Street NW, Washington, DC 20001 128 M Street NW, Washington, DC 20001

Although Terry was a contemporary of my mother and father, she was a best friend to me when Chip and I were new neighbors in Cameron Mews. She loved that I could "out do" her in gossip of the Class of 33' and on! Her spirit and beauty will be hard to replace. And although, she loved to zing her favorite people, she loved them more than life itself. God Bless her soul.

One thing that helps during difficult times like this is to draw even closer to family and to Almighty God (James 4:8). I'm sorry for your loss. FWJ Jr.
