Arthur Sims Obituary

SIMS, ARTHUR I., M.D.

On January 12, 2006, in Naples, FL. ARTHUR I. SIMS, M.D., of Naples, FL, formerly of Arlington, VA passed away. He was born January 12, 1915 in Wilkes Barre, PA. Dr. Sims graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He served as a Major in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and practiced pediatrics in Washington, DC and Arlington, VA from 1947 to 1994. He was a past president of the Arlington County Medical Society. He was a Clinical Professor of Pediatric Cardiology at Georgetown University Medical School and taught medical students at the DC General Hospital for 40 years. He served on the the Veteran's Board of Appeals in Washington, DC from 1981 to 1984.

He was a former member of the Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, MD, the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, VA and the Army Navy Club in Washington, DC. He was a member of the Moorings Country Club in Naples, FL.

Dr. Sims married Janet Heidelbeger, who preceded him in death in 1975. He married Stella Hackel Sims in 1980, who survives him. He is also survived by three children, Joan S. Flanagan of Arkansas, Jill S. Stern of Maryland and Steven S. Sims of Florida and Pennsylvania; as well as seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. Graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 1 p.m., at Washington Hebrew Congregation Memorial Park, Washington, DC.
