As a 9-year-old boy I began taking accordion lessons at Kitts Music Co. in downtown N.W. Washington, DC. I took the streetcar there from our home in N.E. D.C. I took lessons for 4 years, and Mrs. Lally was my teacher. I believe that initial lessons from her were through Kitts, and then I remember taking my lessons at her home, where my Dad faithfully transported me weekly. My brother took guitar lessons at Kitts and we became a very experienced performing, amateur duet. In high school we formed a rock band, with me playing an amplified "squeeze box," and the band went on for 11 years, with over 1,500 professional performances. During that period I moved on from the accordion and I was self-taught on the electric piano and the Hammond B-3 organ. After our band disolved, brother & I both continued with the music, separately, as professional musicians in the D.C. Metro area, encompassing a 20-year professional musical career, in addition to our ongoing day-time careers. So, Mrs. Lally, I thank you now ... so many, many years later ... for helping me to have an interesting and rewarding life during those "thrilling days of yesteryear." I offer the family my heartfelt sympathy for your loss.
