Doris Gammon Obituary

GAMMON DORIS GAMBLE GAMMON Died on January 10, 2009 at age 90 after a long and fulfilling life. She was born on July 19, 1918 to James Alexander and Florence Gertrude Gamble in Springfield, MA. She was a long-time resident of the Washington, DC area, recently residing at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, MD. Growing up in College Park, MD where her father taught for the University of Maryland, she enjoyed summer trips to Tall Timbers on the Potomac in St. Mary''s County. She attended Purdue University where she began a lifelong affiliation with Pi Beta Phi Fraternity, and completed her degree in psychology at George Washington University. A wartime bride, she married James E.F. Gammon on Columbus Day, 1943, beginning a voyage of discovery lasting 65 years with a honeymoon en route to Lt. Gammon''s posting at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX. A life-long gardener, she was a founding member of the All Thumbs Garden Club in Wood Acres, MD. In later years, she volunteered extensively with Meals-On-Wheels in Montgomery County. She was a proud member of the Mayflower Society and enjoyed researching family history. She is survived by her husband, son, James of Hobe Sound, FL; daughter, Sarah Daum of LaVerne, CA; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ross, and sister Betty. A celebration of life is planned for Saturday September 19 at 1:30 p.m. in the Guild Memorial Chapel in the Park View Building at Asbury Methodist Village, Gaithersburg, MD.

Dois was a wonderful aunt, and great aunt to Rory and Elliot. They will cherish all of their birthday messages and will keep her and her family in their thoughts and prayers. We miss you. Ann Niall Rory and Elliot Murphy.
